This film, "August", starring Anthony Hopkins, was filmed in North Wales near Briton Pyne's new home.
Hard as it may be to believe, one of Briton's favorite fast foods now is Beans on Toast. Enjoy the movie, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and last but not least, enjoy the toast.

Photos from Iroquois County Fair and L'Erable Homecoming
Two of the area's most anticipated events took place in July. The L'Erable Homecoming on July 13th and the Iroquois County Fair which closed with Monday's 4-H and FFA livestock sale, both enjoyed beautiful midwestern summer weather and in spite of news of economic woes, both drew large crowds of happy people.
Pictures from both events, as well as the late June "Taste of Ashkum " can be found in our photo galleries. See a photo you like? Click the "Buy Print" button beneath a photo to purchase a copy.
More than 200 participants took part in Saturday’s Central 5K Memorial Race which honored the memory of Dawn Schafer. The event was held at Clifton’s Village Park and throughout the east side streets. Pictured following the race/walk are Dawn’s parents, Don and Elsie Schafer of Chebanse, center, and their family.
Dawn Schafer was at the end of her junior year at Cental High School when she lost her brief battle with viral pneumonia on May 9, 1984. She was a twin sister to Dean Schafer of Chebanse, and sister to Kim Astroth of Normal, Dianne Schaafsma of Momence, Judy Torres of Houston, Texas, David and Dennis Schafer of Chebanse, and Ann Jensen of Clifton. Dawn had dreams of becoming a teacher but during her stay in the hospitals, she considered a career in nursing. She was an academic, athletic and spiritual inspiration to all who knew her.
Proceeds from the memorial race will provide scholarships for some 2009 Central High School graduates. For a complete list of race winners and their times visit http://Central5KMemorial.com.
Kids of all ages enjoyed a “Taste of Ashkum” Saturday evening as the Ashkum Main Street Business Association launched the summer festival season. A cool breeze provided a bit of respite from the recent hot weather. A larger than average crowd enjoyed the variety of foods, a Jaws of Life display by the Ashkum Firemen, a kiddie tractor pull, drawings and prizes. Capping the evening was a street dance with music by The All Star Music Machine. Casi Gray and Cindy Gray stayed busy throughout the evening painting lovely designs on beautiful little faces.
